Terebra protexta

Fine-ribbed Auger

Shell similar to the Eastern Auger, Terebra dislocata, except for smaller size and slightly flatter whorls. Sculpture of about 22 fine ribs crossed by incised spiral lines. Color grayish to grayish-brown, aperture dark-brown to deep-purple. Common in mud and sand flats.
